General Information

Patrol deputies are responsible for patrolling and conducting criminal investigations within the 1,781 square miles of Jefferson County, excluding the 4.3 square miles laying within the City limits of Madras. In the city limits of Madras the Sheriff's Office responds as requested to calls for service occurring in Madras, serve all court and civil paperwork, and are responsible for court security.

Patrol deputies generally patrol the unincorporated areas of Jefferson County, however the Sheriff’s Office has jurisdiction to act in any area of the County. The Sheriff's Office has a contract with both the city of Culver as well as the city of Metolius for enhanced patrol services. These locations obtain extra hours of dedicated patrol services per month.

Calls for law enforcement service received by Frontier Regional Dispatch in Condon route calls to the appropriate agency, ie; those received for complaints occurring within the boundaries of the Madras City limits, are routed to the Madras Police Department. Calls for service occurring on the state highway are routed to the Oregon State Police if a Trooper is on duty. All other calls for service are routed to the Sheriff’s Office for patrol deputy response.

Regular Patrol Deputies are augmented and assisted by a very active volunteer Reserve Deputy program. These are members of the public who volunteer their time to conduct patrols, serve civil paperwork, and work traffic details throughout the county.
