House Checks

When you are planning to be out of town or away from your home for a period of time you can contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and complete a house check form. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will periodically check your house and have your contact information in the office in case of an emergency.

Please take the necessary steps when planning to be away from your home, so that it is not obvious to potential thieves that you are away. Stop the mail and paper, or have a neighbor pick them up each day. Also have a trusted neighbor keep an eye on your house and pick up any junk mail that may be left on your door or garage. Also instruct your neighbor's to call 911 if they notice anything suspicious at your house or in the neighborhood. 

Houses not eligible and will NOT be checked under this program are:

1. Houses unoccupied and or under construction.
2. Houses unoccupied and listed for sale/show by realtors.
3. Houses where the owner has hired or appointed another person to periodically be there.

Property owners whose houses fall under these exclusions may request extra patrol only.

Completed house check forms can be dropped off at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office , M-F, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm  or you can mail the completed form to:
