Jail Volunteer Information

We would like to thank you for your interest in helping the men and women who are confined in our facility.  Through your efforts to visit and provide services the inmates receive encouragement and the opportunity to make positive changes in their lives.  This enhances their mental and emotional state and creates a safer and healthier stay in the jail.  Your time and assistance are greatly appreciated.

We would like to inform you of the rules and policies that must be followed to maintain the safety and security of the facility.  These rules are in place to ensure the safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and yourself.  These rules must be followed and will be strictly enforced.

  1. Contraband: Contraband is defined as anything that is not issued to inmates in this facility.  You are not allowed to give gifts to inmates.  If you need to supply a document or book as part of your program, the corrections staff must approve it in advance.  The rule is, ask the Corrections Deputy before you bring in any item.  They will check the item and approve it, if it is an acceptable item.
  2. ORS 162.185 makes the supplying of contraband a felony crime.  You can and will be arrested, if you supply or attempt to supply contraband into this facility.
  3. You cannot give legal advise to inmates or discuss their charges or their cases.
  4. A criminal history check will be conducted on all applicants.  You must have a clean criminal record to be approved for these privileges.
  5. You are subject to a search of your person and property, for contraband, if a Corrections Deputy has any suspicion that contraband has been brought into the facility.
  6. It is your responsibility to notify corrections staff any time there is an altercation (verbal or physical) or any kind of friction between inmates, during your meeting.
  7. If an inmate is disrespectful to you or any other visitor, it should be reported to corrections staff immediately.  This infraction cannot be handled unless it is reported.
  8. If your service stays inactive for a period of four months, your application will be taken out of our files.  You would be required to reapply and go through the process again in order to get back in the program.
  9. If you are approved for professional visitation, we will need a copy of your Oregon ID (photo) and we will take a picture of you to be attached to your application.
  10. You will be required to sign in and out (in the guest book) each time that you enter and leave the secure area of the facility.
  11. You must notify us each time that you have a change of address or phone number, so we can keep our files current.
  12. If for any reason a family member or close friend is incarcerated in this facility, you are required to notify corrections staff before entering the facility.  We do not allow contact visits with inmates under these circumstances.
