Credit Reporting

The County Clerk's Office preserves and makes available to the public including credit reporting agencies all records affecting the title to real property. The Jefferson County Clerk’s office does not distribute information to credit reporting agencies.  If an error appears on your credit report, it is your responsibility to identify misinformation and to work with the agency or agencies in removing any mistakes found in a credit report.  


Legibility Requirements

In accordance with state laws, the County Clerk's Office shall preserve all records affecting the title to real property. All documents are permanent records and must be legible for the integrity of the public record.


Physical appearance

Generally, an instrument presented for recording, shall be typed, written or printed in 8-point type or larger on paper not larger than 14 inches long and 8 ½ inches wide and of sufficient quality for recording photographically.  

There must be a space measuring 4 ¼” wide by 1 ¾” high in the upper right or lower right corner of the first page for recording label.


Legal Descriptions

Documents requiring legal descriptions of subject real property must meet the standards set forth in ORS 93.600.  Acceptable legal property descriptions are:

  • A subdivision name with lot and block
  • A metes and bounds description
  • A partition plat recording and parcel number

A tax lot number or street address is not a legal property description.  Legal descriptions can be verified by the Jefferson County's Assessor's Office.
