Weed Control and Abatement

Schedule. Please click the "Meetings" tab on the main page for meeting dates and times. The Jefferson County Weed Advisory Committee meets  at the Public Works Facility (715 SE Grizzly Rd).  

Mission. To serve the interests of the citizens and landowners of Jefferson County by reducing or eradicating noxious weeds. To provide direction to Jefferson County staff with regard to education about and treatment of noxious weeds in the county.

Purpose of the Weed Advisory Committee. The Weed Advisory Committee is established by Resolution. The Weed Advisory Committee will serve the public interest in an ethical and responsible manner by:

1. Assisting the county in effective education, outreach, and treatment of noxious weeds.
2. Advocating for effective weed control programs.
3. Receiving information from county staff in order to make informed decisions.
4. Cooperating with local interest groups and state and federal agencies thereby promoting partnerships.
5. Assisting in accessing funding.
6. Reporting and making recommendations to the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners.
7. Assisting the county with the identification of appropriate additions to and deletions from the Jefferson County Noxious Weed List.
8. The Weed Advisory Committee is subject to the laws applicable to public bodies.

Resolution Number R-004-18

WHEREAS, Jefferson County is designated as a Weed Control District, formed under ORS 570.505 and codified in Jefferson County Code Chapter 8.28 with the purpose of destroying and preventing the seeding and spread of noxious weeds; and 

WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners desires to establish a Weed Control Advisory Committee to help the Weed District set program priorities and educate and advise the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners and staff in matters relating to noxious weed reduction, treatment and eradication; and 

WHEREAS, the Weed Control Advisory Committee will be governed by bylaws which dictate its mission, purpose, membership, meetings and public input process and are attached hereto as Exhibit A; 

NOW THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners that the Jefferson County Weed Control Advisory Committee is hereby established and that the Bylaws for the Jefferson County Weed Control Advisory Committee, attached as Exhibit A, are adopted.
