Gray Butte Cemetery

Gray Butte Cemetery was platted in Haystack Grange No. 495 in 1927.  The grange operated the cemetery until 1986 when they deeded it to Jefferson County.  The first known burial was Harry McMeen in 1890.  Gray Butte Cemetery is located west of Highway 26 between Madras and Prineville.  (At the Hwy 97 and Hwy 26 intersection in Madras, drive towards Prineville 11.6 miles to a gravel road on the right side of the highway.   A road sign will say 'Gray Butte T.H.'.  Travel on this gravel road for a few miles, and the cemetery will be on the right-hand side at the top of a hill.)
