Reproductive Health
The Reproductive Health program provides low cost reproductive health services, birth control, STI testing, outreach and education in order to promote sexual health and well being, and to reduce unintended pregnancy. Services are, by law, confidential to all persons.
Services provided by nurses and nurse practitioners:
- Pregnancy tests and pregnancy counseling
- Birth control counseling and instructions
- Pelvic exams and pap smears
- Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STI)
- Health education
Birth control counseling and instructions:
Medical staff at Public Health will provide counseling and instructions for the following:
- Abstinence
- IUDs
- Implant
- Depo Provera injections (the shot)
- Birth control pills
- Birth Control Patch
- Nuva Ring
- Condoms
- Diaphragm
- Spermicides
- Natural family planning
Jefferson County Public Health has an emergency contraception available to women who have had unprotected intercourse for up to 120 hours after the incident. Emergency contraception is designed to prevent a pregnancy but will not harm fetus if pregnancy has already occurred.
Public Health nurses can educate clients on the following:
- Breast health information
- Referral on how to stop smoking or chewing
- Referral for substance abuse
- Nutrition counseling
- Eating disorder referrals
- STD/HIV risk assessment and prevention counseling
- Immunization recommendations
All fees for services are based on income by a sliding fee scale. Medicaid and private insurance are accepted.
ALL women under 250% of Federal Poverty Level are eligible to receive FREE birth control services and supplies through the Reproductive Health Equity Act (HB 3391). Additionally, the Act provides protections for the continuation of reproductive health services with no cost sharing, such as co-pays or payments toward deductibles, and prohibits discrimination in the provision of reproductive health services.
Interpreters for Spanish speaking clients are available.
