Assessor's Office

New Property Search feature! Searching for property information has now become easier with the implementation of our new 'Property Search Online' app. Please see the link on the left to utilize.

Updated aerial imagery! Jefferson County has new aerial imagery captured during the summer of 2022. It is now available to view in the GIS Interactive Mapper. (See the link to the mapper in the menu list on the left side.)

Reappraisal work cycle: Appraisers are currently working in the Camp Sherman area, conducting reappraisal inspections. They are wearing vests which have a County logo on the front, and a label of 'Appraiser' on the back. Each appraiser carries County issued ID, and drives a County vehicle with County logo on the door. Please call if you have any questions or concerns about any of our appraisal staff!

Property Returns: Business Confidential Personal Property and Confidential Real Property Returns were mailed out, as a courtesy, the first week in January. They must be filed with the Assessor on or before March 15, 2024. If we missed you in the courtesy mailing, and you own or operate a business in Jefferson County, Oregon, you must still file a complete return before the deadline in order to avoid late filing fees. Blank returns are available on our website menu, by clicking the 'plus' sign next to the "DOR Forms and Applications" menu item. They are also available online with the OR Dept. of Revenue. You can also request that we send you a hard copy, however, in all cases, the deadline still applies. Call us if you have questions!

Farm Income Study: We are conducting a study on farmland leases in the county in order to determine the Specially Assessed Values of farmland. We have mailed out questionnaires to owners of farmland requesting information regarding any farmland leases you may have, or have given out. All information received will be held securely and treated as confidential. If you have any questions regarding this study please call!

New Construction, Remodels, etc: If you have procured a permit for new construction, or remodel work, to be done on your property, you may be visited by appraisal staff, who, with your permission, will take photographs and make notes regarding the progress of the work. They may ask you for more details as needed. Remember, all staff have County ID and will produce that ID upon request. Call, if you have questions regarding any staff visits!

ABOUT US:

The Jefferson County Assessor is responsible for identifying all taxable properties within the County and assigning values and property taxes to those properties. This includes residential, commercial, industrial, farm / forest land, manufactured structures, and business personal property.  The department is also responsible for administering certain programs such as special assessments, senior deferral, veteran and active-duty military exemptions, enterprise zones, and various other property tax exemptions.  Maps, property information, and ownership are also maintained.

The property tax program provides funding for public services that enhance the quality of life for all. It provides a financing mechanism for cities, schools, fire departments, road districts, library, and county government. Property taxes are controlled and administered under a system of state laws, which specify how taxes are calculated.

The Assessor's office reviews all taxing district budgets, computes tax rates for all taxing districts, and assures that distribution of the tax levies are uniform on all taxable property and implements any new laws and ordinances pertaining to Assessment and Taxation.

The tax year runs from July 1st to June 30th of each year and reflects a value on each property as of the preceding January 1st. The end goal of the work done in the Assessor’s office, by GIS/Cartography staff as well as by Appraisal staff, is to produce an accurate Property Tax Statement for each taxable property. We diligently strive for the tax statements to reflect accurate valuations and assessments which include such things as up-to-date ownership and acreage. Please call us if you have any questions regarding your tax statement!
